Vongo Says I Have An OS Failure

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006 | 20 Comments »

I was watching TV tonight and kept seeing funny ads for a service called Vongo. The ads were pretty nebulous, so after the movie I tried visiting their website:

Not a browser failure, but an OS FAILURE! Kinda odd too, considering they stuck “Mac OS X” in the right hand “Minimum System Requirements” column. [...]

I guess building to flip isn’t always a bad thing

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006 | 4 Comments »

“Building to flip” is a term that means that you’d build a company, product, or service specifically with the intent to sell it. This strategy is not often the best strategy, since you remove customer from the equation and simply try to make the service attractive to prospective buyers. Good for you, bad [...]

The Misuse of Buzzwords

Monday, January 30th, 2006 | No Comments »

Speaking from experience, using buzz words can actually do you more harm than good, especially when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

The Use And Misuse of RSS

Thursday, January 19th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

It seems that my entry on Top Ten Sources sparked some nice debate around the blogosphere. Everyone from Susan Mernit to Dave Winer has been brought into the shuffle. I discussed Top Ten Sources with John Palfrey via email, and he let me know that the company is alerting writers of the impending [...]

Either Support Safari, Or Lose Customers

Monday, December 12th, 2005 | 91 Comments »

I’m completely sick of “web 2.0″ applications/companies/websites not working in Safari. I’m even *more* sick of people who say that users critiquing a web application’s inability to work in Safari are lame or don’t know what they’re talking about. This rant was brought on by comments on TechCrunch about the new version of [...]

Put The Pajamas Back On, Your Birthday Suit Is Showing

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005 | 8 Comments »

Roger Simon, in his excruciatingly finite wisdom, decides to change Open Source Media back to Pajamas Media due to the fact he and his entire company committed faux pas after faux pas after they launched. Good thing they paid a pretty penny for the three-character domain name and branding which is now all out [...]

Open Source Media CEO Screwed Business Partner?

Monday, November 21st, 2005 | 4 Comments »

To be honest with all of you, I have never, ever seen a business go from launch to meltdown as quickly as Open Source Media appears to be. Since they launched, I have only seen ONE positive analysis of their business and that came from seattlepi.com where it was simply reporting the company’s launch [...]

Open Source Media Launches To Negative Press

Thursday, November 17th, 2005 | 5 Comments »

Pajamas Media finally took the sheet off their new name this week and became Open Source Media, which they describe as “a new blogging venture designed to bring together the internet’s brightest minds and most compelling content into a single source that will, in turn, complement and re-define journalism in the 21st century.” Pretty [...]

Jakob Nielsen’s Love for Office 12 Comes At A Price

Thursday, October 13th, 2005 | 18 Comments »

I was looking at Blogdex when I came across Jakob Nielsen’s latest Alertbox article: R.I.P. WYSIWYG - Results-Oriented UI Coming. In the article, Jakob Nielsen asserts that WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interfaces are now dead, and that the future of user interfacing lies inside the next version of Microsoft Office, [...]

Instablogs and the Importance Of Branding

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005 | 8 Comments »

The other day I discussed some random tidbits from the community and touched upon my reaction to the Instablogs logo. Today I wanted to go a bit further and talk about this whole weblog network phenomenon and how extremely important it is to separate yourself from the herd via good branding.
