When we first launched Business Logs we had a clear vision of the services our company would offer and how we wanted to help organizations utilize blogs to their fullest potential. During the first couple of weeks we received many emails from potential clients looking to find out what it is exactly we do, but one company seemed to understand from the very beginning of why we were so excited to launch. Squarespace, Inc. literally approached us only a couple of days after our launch to discuss what we could do for them and finally we are able to show you a small part of what came out of that discussion.

The Missing Whitepaper
Over on the right you may have noticed a signup box for our whitepaper that has been eternally “Coming Soon” since the beginning of this site. Yet there is still no whitepaper. Is it vaporware? Did we even plan on writing one or are we just looking to gather emails to make new friends? Well since I am responsible for the whitepaper I have the answers to these questions.
Does It Exist?
Yes it does indeed exist and will be ready to ship November 1st (yes that is 2004).
Why So Long?
Even though we see that whitepaper as a great opportunity to reach out to our readers and potential clients, we felt that we could never place it as the top priority item on a list when we are busy working with a major client while also launching a brand new collaborative project (to be launched real soon now).
Also with so many great resources online already devoted to quality writing on the web we tried our best to not simply give you more of the same. At times we thought that we didn’t have enough content and other times we needed to avoid writing a textbook.
Those are some lame excuses.
We agree and know that if we devoted all our time and resources to the whitepaper that it would’ve been done a while ago, but at the expense of other projects that have helped to build our company bit by bit.
So whose fault is it really?
Admittedly my part is the last piece of the puzzle missing. I have proven to be ineffective in the line of duty and am thankful that my partners have yet to fire me… or maybe they don’t even realize the whitepaper isn’t done yet. In that case please feel free to ignore this entry guys.
Why Business Logs?
When we first started kicking around ideas this past Spring, we weren’t completely sure what this partnership was going to yield. Matthew has loads of experience with real-world usability testing and interface design, corporate politics, and communicating with people who don’t know what you’re talking about. Paul has a Masters degree in Management Information Systems so he does “all that stuff” extremely well, he is a true technologist with multiple languages under his belt, and also is enamored with online communication and information architecture. I like to make things work better – and those things may include user interfaces, backend code for a content management system, or an unruly IA that doesn’t handle the site well anymore. So those are a quick overview of our best skills, but what now?
Business Logs Design Study
Every site has a story, and our website is no different.
We went from business concept to website launch in under 6 weeks, so you can imagine how compacted the design process was. Even though we didn’t roll through as many iterations as usual, we still feel that we accomplished a lot in the time we gave ourselves. This entry will hopefully give our readers some insight into what it takes (and what I personally do) to launch a website from scratch.
