We don’t normally post political things here, but I wanted to make sure that more eyes saw this article because it’s so very important: What happened to Iraq’s missing $1bn?
It appears that through carefully selected military contracts, shoddy knockoff military equipment was purchased instead of what should have been bought. A quote from the article that gives the jist of what happened:
“The money, intended to train and equip an Iraqi army capable of bringing security to a country shattered by the US-led invasion and prolonged rebellion, was instead siphoned abroad in cash and has disappeared.”
The article goes on to state that it is now nearly impossible for Iraqi forces to stand-up to the militants because of a lack of proper equipment, and that the scheduled U.S. leave could drop the country back into the insurgency’s hands.
I’m not sure why this article isn’t getting more play in the blog world, but please do what you can to spread the word.
